Who are we

We are the living legacy of four generations dedicated to the artisanal salt pans of the Castro Marim Nature Reserve. Rooted in the resilience of our great-grandfather António Correia da Silva, and our grandfather Raul Salvador Correia, they preserved our traditional plots, we remain guardians of this land.

Harvesting our Sea Salt and Flor de Sal entirely by hand, is honouring the ancient dance between the sun, the wind, and the tides to ensure a product of absolute purity.

Today, we carry this heritage forward with a bold commitment to transparency. We blend age-old tradition with modern integrity, offering a product that is not just tasted, but trusted.

Gravity guides the water through the Tejo and Contra-Tejo (our large reservoirs or viveiros), where the sun begins the evaporation process

The brine moves to the Caldeiras and passes through the Travadouros, warming up, increasing in salinity as it travels.

The “marnoto” must rake the salt from the bottom of the crystallisers, without ever touching the clay soil beneath.

Castro Marim salt pans are man-made wetlands that serve as a vital sanctuary for aquatic birds. Without artisanal salt production, these habitats would dry up.

Flor de Sal

The “White Gold”, is a thin, delicate crust of crystals that forms on the very surface of the water during very specific weather conditions, hot, windless days. It is skimmed gently by hand using a traditional "lathing" tool (coador) before it sinks.

Profile: Crunchy texture, dissolves instantly. Sweet, complex mineral flavor.

Best Use: Gently sprinkle it over salads, grilled fish, steak, or even dark chocolate.

The Traditional Salt (Castro Marim)

Traditional Sea Salt

The crystals that grow heavy and settle at the bottom of the crystallizer, absorbing the minerals from the clay. It is raked manually from the bottom using a wooden tool “rodo”, washing only in its own brine.

Profile: Rich in magnesium, potassium and calcium. Natural humidity, pure white.

Best Use: Perfect for boiling pasta, seasoning stews, or salt-crusting fish or meat.

Nature’s Mineral Supplement

More than just sodium

Unlike industrial table salt, which is chemically processed to become 99.9% isolated Sodium Chloride, Sal Correia is a "whole food." Harvested by hand and dried only by the sun and wind, our salt is never washed.

This preserves the ocean's original mineral matrix, a complex blend of trace elements that your body absorbs naturally.

There’s a remarkable similarity between the mineral balance of sea water and human blood plasma. Industrial salt is a "chemical isolate" that hits your system hard. Sal Correia provides sodium alongside its natural antagonists—Magnesium, Calcium and Potassium.

This natural balance helps your cells absorb water effectively (hydration) rather than trapping it between cells (bloating), which is a common side effect of processed salt. The leads to hydration, not retention.

While our salt is rich in essential minerals compared to refined salt, it is not a medicine. It should be consumed as part of a varied and balanced diet. Individuals with specific medical conditions regarding sodium intake should consult their physician.

Every package invites into our history, featuring a QR code that reveals the exact harvest date and lab analysis of your specific vintage. We hand-harvest in the centuries-old salt pans, crafted by the time. No chemicals, no shortcuts, just nature and tradition.
